Air

Filter plantThe air is particularly polluted by dust and waste gases during our production processes. The foundry has relatively low emissions due to the use of electric melting furnaces. Dust emissions and evaporated cooling water can be mentioned in this connection. The dust-laden air is sucked off by powerful fans and cleaned in a total of 6 filter systems. The dust concentration in the waste air is recorded continuously. Measurements by the Institute for Environmental Protection in Velbert showed that the figures for the foundry are up to 25% below the dust limit value of 1 mg/m³.

Gaseous, combustion-specific substances are also produced in the rolling mill alongside the two factors mentioned for the foundry. Of primary relevance here are carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitric oxide (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO). During measurements at the roller hearth furnace in November 1997, the values recorded were more than 20% below the approved limit value for SO2 (35 mg/m³) and NOx (200 mg/m³).

Emission declarations in accordance with the statutory specifications are drafted at regular intervals. The next one will be drawn up for the year 2000.
